For Our Kids

We have a new focus to bring faithful and child-centered renewal to our family ministries. Our church has long been a place of those who know the importance that strong families (of all kinds) and good communities have in the lives of children. Our members have been educators and community leaders and continue to be committed to a stable and nurturing faith environment for all ages.

Sunday School. We are in the process of making all things (re)new for our children. On Sunday mornings we have Sunday School:

>  A pre-school classroom for children 20 months to kindergarten.
>  An elementary age classroom.
>  Youth activities.
>  And nursery care.

Sunday Worship. During our Sunday worship our pastor offers a children’s message just right for the kids and it often includes an interactive element.

Child growth perspectives. We believe that childhood is a formative time for children to learn–deeply and earnestly–that they are persons of sacred worth and deeply loved by God. We seek to provide an environment where kids can feel safe, and we pay attention to modern best practices of child development, such as Mind in the Making.

Subject Matter. In our curriculum, story telling, and wisdom sharing, we teach always that God loves children. We affirm scientific inquiry in all the ways that science helps us to understand our world and live better in it together. We believe the bible is a sacred book filled stories and wisdom and power that lead us to a better life. As Methodists we believe in “grace” which means that we affirm a loving rather than a condemning God. We are called to be the best persons we can for the benefit of all persons all together.

Messy Church. We have developed our own way of being Messy Church, as well. Messy Church is an inter-generational active time of storytelling and activities designed to bring whole families together, all the family at once! Messy Church is held once a month in the evening, and a dinner is provided. Read more about Messy Church.

Youth Drama. We engage our youth with opportunities to act out the stories of the bible with humor and wisdom. We engage their imaginations through script writing and dramatic skits and when practiced will perform on Sundays, at special events, and at Messy Church. Our goal is to equip our youth with caring, encouraging peers and personal confidence as they learn to live to their fullest potential in the assurance of God’s love.

DSP_7338Summer Drama Camp. In the summer while many churches do VBS (Vacation Bible School) we are trying something new. In 2014 we launched a Summer Drama Camp and invited kids from K-5th grade (with youth helpers!) to put on a show! Our musical extravaganza was a huge success, and we look forward to 2015.

IMG_0537Summer Church Camp. While our Summer Drama Camp keeps kids close to home, summer church camp offers kids an opportunity to spend a week away from home in a camp-out camp-site setting at one of our Methodist run summer camps in Washington, including the camp at Ocean Shores, Lazy F Camp, or even at Twinlow in Idaho.  Every year Methodists in connection—there are more than 8 million of us! Read about Methodists!—summer camp away from home is as transformational experience for many campers, one they remember and cherish the rest of their lives.

Camperships. Our goal is to help all of our kids get to summer church camp. We do that by raising money to offer camperships (camp scholarships) because the reality is that camp is expensive–to expensive for many families. Every spring we do a campership drive to raise funds. If you can help with this, see our edonations page. Thank you, your help will make a difference.
